Crestor brand name discount purchase

WASHINGTON (AP) —A new cholesterol-lowering drug for the heart muscle, AstraZeneca's Crestor, has gone on the market.

The company is looking at a $20 million price tag for the drug and is looking to keep its price constant.

The new drug, known as Crestor, will cost $5 per pill.

"The bottom line is this is a good choice for patients and patients, but it will not be available for everyone in the next four to six months," said David C. Smith, chairman and chief executive of AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Inc., in a company news release. "Our goal is to provide access to affordable medications for patients in America."

The price tag is set to expire in April 2011, when the Food and Drug Administration will take action against some manufacturers of the drug.

Crestor is already available in the U. S. and other countries. The new drug, called Qrospep, is expected to be approved by the FDA in late-stage trials and has been approved for use in patients in the United States and other countries.

The cost of the drug in the U. and other countries is expected to be less than half of its current price. However, the drug is available to more than 1.2 million patients, about 3,000 of which have already received the drug.

The price tag for Crestor, which is also called rosuvastatin, will be around $1,500 per tablet.

Qrospep is already available in the U. It is available for free to some Americans. A similar drug for the treatment of high cholesterol is available as a prescription.

Pfizer & Co. Inc. is the company that makes the cholesterol-lowering drug.

Pfizer, which makes the drug, was the first pharmaceutical company to sell a cholesterol-lowering drug, Lipitor, in 2002 and in 2003, Crestor, the first drug to be approved for the treatment of high cholesterol.

The Food and Drug Administration in 2004 approved the first of Crestor's approved uses of the drug, which is intended to lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels.
